Socio-cultural environment of early medieval Sogdian merchants being in northwestern China (based on the tomb of Kang Ye)

Abstract:

In recent years, findings of tombs of people from the Western Regions of the Central Plains attracted the extensive attention of the academic community. The most demonstrative examples include 5 graves. The grave of Kang Ye (571 CE), this tomb located in the northern suburb of Xi’an in Shaanxi province. Three graves were found in Taiyuan, Shanxi province: the tomb of An Jia (579 CE), the grave of Shi Jun (580 CE), the grave of Yu Hong (592 CE). The fifth was the undated tomb from the mountain top of Wenshan in Tianshui, Gansu province.
