Abstract:

The article posed the question of the impact that the Louvre of the Napoleon Bonaparte era had on European museum construction, including the development of the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. The emphasis is on the perception of the museum as a symbol of national greatness, the task of creating an exposition and receiving visitors. Particular attention is paid to such topical issues as understanding the museum as an important element of state policy and searching for the origins of the activities of museum curators.
